Green Tip of the Month
Saving money on electric bills is great motivation to make changes in energy conservation throughout the spring and summer months. Turn off cooling systems and open windows on a cool night; shut the windows and blinds to capture the cool air the following morning. Take advantage of ceiling fans to increase cooling efficiency and remember to turn them off when leaving a room. Set higher temperatures when you are away from home and lower temperatures only when you are at home – try keeping the difference between the indoor and outdoor temperatures as low as possible. Keep lamps, TV’s or other heat generating appliances away from the thermostat which can cause the air conditioner to run longer than necessary. Maintenance is key: schedule regular maintenance for cooling equipment. Information on energy star rated appliances and more energy saving tips can be found on www.EnergyStar.gov
